The Ford Bronco back in 1966 had “Land Rover Defender Fighter” written all over it. It was a bulky, mean 4×4 that has since gained a strong cult following.
Between the recent boom of the SUV market in the United States recently, and the fact that collectors are really taking a big interest to classic Bronco’s, the conditions are right for a return. This is fantastic, because the Jeep Wrangler could really use some cold-hearted competition.
Whatever reasons we wove (I can’t believe wove is a word) goodbye to the Bronco back a number of years ago, it is returning as the 2020 Ford Bronco. Given such a big release this is, there is plenty of speculation about what we could see.
We’ve seen possibility of a hardtop convertible, diesel and four door for variants of the 2020 Bronco. Regardless, it’s cause for excitement.
Luckily for us, Ford has confirmed we will see the Bronco return in 2020. So let’s see what else we can talk about.
The images of the Ford Bronco are purely artist renderings, since the real 4×4 isn’t even in testing phase. But, the rendering above is the most popular around the internet and it is probably the most accurate we have right now. It looks pretty great, and I think the addition of some aggressive black fender flares could make a super cool addition. There is a whole world of opportunities for this 4×4, it makes me even more excited.
The new 2020 Bronco should incorporate a lot from the original Bronco, which means a strong 4×4 DNA.
I also really hope the final product doesn’t try to push some sort of eco-friendly narrative like the 2017 Ford GT does. The GT has a twin-turbo V6 which produces fantastic power, but leaves a lot to be desired as a supercar.
That is a whole different conversation for a different time, though. If you want to know more about my thoughts check out the video I made: 2017 FORD GT: A FLOP?
The Interior-2020 Ford Bronco:
The interior of the 2020 Ford Bronco is shrouded in even more mystery than the exterior is. But we can paint a similar picture to the exterior with some assumptions.
First of all, there will most definitely be elements on the inside that will pay homage to the original Ford Bronco. These elements or designs will be complemented by updated cues that will bring those designs from the 1960’s to the present time.
Another thing we could see out of the 2020 Ford Bronco interior is more updated Ford technology. They have been very keen on developing and implementing new technology in Ford cars, so there will be some tech to help elevate the 4×4 experience.
On the concept of technology, we cue in luxury. There should be two avenues Ford will take with the 2020 Bronco overall. Either they take some luxury and leather-trimmed route for a well equipped 2020 Ford Bronco, or Ford will take the bare-bones route.
Think about the Jeep Wrangler. The Jeep Wrangler is a stripped down, purpose built 4×4 with not much more to it. I do believe that the Bronco will embody some sort of this stripped down off-roader. The more luxuries they tack into the 2020 Ford Bronco, the more it will divert from its original purpose.
Expect the 2020 Ford Bronco to accommodate five adults comfortably in a two or four door configuration.
Rumors around the internet point to a variety of power plants for the 2020 Ford Bronco. Some think we’ll see a diesel option, while others point to the good old 5.0 L V8 to be under the hood.
While anyone’s guess is as good as mine, we can assume Ford will go with a couple different options for different trim levels.
For example, Ford loves their whole Eco-Boost program right now and we can assume that there will be some sort of turbocharging under the hood. With that said, we could see a 3.0 L V6 or a 3.5 L v6, either one with a turbo or two strapped to it.
Past the possible turbocharging, we have the cooler possibility of a 5.0 L V8 that could churn out 435 plus horses, and 400 pound feet of torque.
Again, we could see some sort of diesel engine option, but that is some real grey area.

Sum It Up:
We are completely in the right to expect a lot out of this new 2020 Ford Bronco. It’s going to be a while before we hear anything truly worthwhile, but the appetite is there.
For excitement’s sake, 2020 is quite a bit of ways away. It is understandable, because at the moment Ford is focusing on pumping out the most hype they can on the new GT.
I’m sure when that hype train has left, the 2020 Ford Bronco will take over. I just hope it really is the real deal.
