2018 Land Rover Defender

The Land Rover Defender is one of the most legendary Land Rover’s ever.  On top of that, the Land Rover Defender is one of the most legendary off-road SUV’s ever.

Land Rover has made over 2 million Land rover Defenders since Land Rover began production in the 1960’s.    The Land Rover Defender has had a long history with a great reputation.

The first thing that comes to my mind about the Land Rover Defender is when Richard Hammond tried to replicate that old commercial of when Land Rover pulled a Defender up a dam.  While it was super entertaining, it was a testament to Land Rover’s engineering.

Land Rover seems to also have a bit of a reputation for being no good past 50,000 miles.  It seems like a lot of British cars are hardly anything close to being reliable.  But, there are plenty of Land Rover’s that randomly get passed 100,000 and 200,000.  Pretty interesting.

The Brits have decided to do a type of resurrection of the 2018 Land Rover Defender.  I can’t think of a higher bar that the new car has to live up to, so I hope this new titan of the road and trail has what it takes.

But obviously, if anyone is to fill the place of the previous Land Rover Defender, it will be Land Rover.

The Exterior-2018 Land Rover Defender:

2018 Land Rover Defender

The last Land Rover Defender can be compared directly to the Mercedes G-wagon, so you can see what we should expect from the new car.

While there have been shots of a 2018 Land Rover Defender being tested in the snow, it looks almost nothing like past examples.

It is important to note that the 2018 Land Rover Defender in the snow shots are of a concept vehicle, and therefore, most likely not the actual car.

With that being said, the 2018 Land Rover Defender should get plenty of inspiration from the past models and look something like the hardcore 4×4 it once was.

So we have to turn to the internet for renderings of the 2018 Land Rover Defender.  We can expect a very boxy and capable looking vehicle, with plenty of cues from the original Land Rover Defender.

A strong, stubby nose will be upfront and sport the “Defender” name plate on the furthest end of the hood.  Land Rover may or may not use their popular  LED accent in the headlights that we see on every other Land Rover model, so only time will tell.  However, using this signature will make the 2018 Land Rover Defender look much more on the luxurious side of things, over the off-road style.

The ride height and road clearance should be pretty substantial as well.  Obviously since it is a Land Rover, the 2018 Land Rover Defender will be plenty capable in mud and rocks and snow and dirt.  Probably the most capable of the fleet, given Land Rover’s prominent history of conquering the harshest of path’s.

2018 Land Rover Defender

From front to back, the 2018 Land Rover Defender will most likely be outfitted to face every terrain easily.  Since the G-Wagon is extinct, I’m sure all of Mercedes customers will go with the original kind of off-road, the Land Rover Defender.

The Interior-2018 Land Rover Defender:

2018 Land rover Defender

As I look around at potential interiors for the 2018 Land Rover Defender,  I keep finding similarities to the G-Class from Mercedes-Benz.

The interior on the previous model of the Land Rover Defender featured a very focused cabin with plenty of leather and high-quality materials.

One of my favorite features on the inside of the classic Land Rover Defender was the tall shifting knob, which made it easy to reach for the driver.  I can see this making a return, however I am doubtful.  I would like to see a manual 2018 Land Rover Defender, but the brand could opt for a full automatic.

The 2018 Land Rover Defender will feature all of the latest technology inside, to help keep the occupants comfortable and secure.

Land Rover will employ all of the off-road technology that we see in their fleet to help pull the 2018 Land Rover Defender through any terrain.  This will make a winning combination for the 2018 Land Rover Defender.

The back seat will be comfortable and luxurious, possibly featuring a back seat entertainment system.  This will depend on whatever path the 2018 Land Rover Defender takes, either more luxurious or an off-road concept.

Regardless of what path Land Rover takes for the 2018 Land Rover Defender, the vehicles interior will be an absolute pleasure to sit in.

The Performance-2018 Land Rover Defender:

The performance of the 2018 Land Rover Defender will have  a lot to live up to.  But like I said in the beginning, if anyone is to top the Land Rover Defender, it is Land Rover.

While we know legitimately nothing about a confirmed power train or transmission or any performance figures, we can make some accurate assumptions.

For example, the 2018 Land Rover Defender will most definitely be an all wheel drive spectacle.

As for engines, Land Rover will most likely fit a diesel in the mix, but we may not get the diesel here in the USA.

Land Rover is fitting their products with more forced induction, so a super charged 2018 Land Rover Defender is a possibility as well.  As always, expect some high horse power and torque figures.

Sum It Up:

The 2018 Land Rover Defender is largely a pool of speculation right now.  As far as MSRP and a release date, the information should be more readily available closer to the end of this year.

I am excited to this latest offering from Land Rover.  The 2018 Land Rover Defender should be as good as a four by four should get.  Legendary.
