The fastest, most powerful production Corvette ever – the 755-horsepower 2019 ZR1.

The Corvette is as American as Baseball and apple pie.  It’s a staple in the culture of the United States and represents the good-old American spirit.

Since 1970, only three Corvettes have used the ZR1 name.   Each one obviously had more power and better performance characteristics than the standard car it was based on.

For years, American car makers Chevrolet have prided themselves in calling the Corvette a “supercar” which it isn’t.

But the development of this classic American sportscar is bringing the Corvette into a new bracket; A new extreme of sportscar.

Chevrolet wants the Corvette to be taken as seriously as supercar manufactures, and they’re taking large strides to make sure the numbers that the car produces are right in line with the best of the best.  A valiant effort.

Now for 2019, the newest and greatest Corvette ZR1 is upon us.  It’s insane and has all the ingredients to be the ultimate Corvette for the time being.

Debut In Dubai:

A lot of us in the United States were a bit confused when we saw that Chevrolet released the 2019 Corvette ZR1 in Dubai at the Dubai motor show this year.

But according the head designer of the 2019 Corvette ZR1, it made all of the sense in the world.

The middle east, especially in Dubai, is a hotbed for supercars and just money in general.  It seems to be the right place to debut the best America has to offer in a place where people can jump on board the brand and be the most unique in town.

The Corvette brand is expanding quite a bit beyond the United States, and debuting the car in Dubai will help the efforts from Chevrolet to help customers take the car and brand more seriously.

About The Car:

Corvette ZR1

Onto the 2019 Corvette ZR1, we can take a look into the insanity that is Chevrolet’s most powerful Corvette ever.

Since there hasn’t been any official test drives just yet, we’re left just to speculate by what we see and are told.

On the outside, the ZR1 definitely looks the part.  It’s mean, has a ton of new aero pieces, and a massively bulged out hood.

If you remember the 2009 Corvette ZR1, you’ll remember that Chevrolet placed a small engine window over the bulged hood.

This didn’t really do much, as you could only see a plastic covering over the engine.  It was a bit tacky.

Thankfully Chevrolet changed things and fitted such a massive supercharger onto the 6.2 L V8 that they had to raise the engine up, cut out a hole in the hood and placed a carbon fiber cover over the engine.  It’s immense.

To help cool down the massive engine and its equally massive supercharger, Chevrolet added in new cooling elements and one major change there is the new front fascia.

The 2019 Corvette ZR1 features more air intake space up front on the bumper that feeds air into the engine and supercharger to keep things cool.

Shifting comes from a seven speed manual transmission or an eight speed automatic transmission.

Some Numbers:

Corvette ZR1

Onto the numbers that Chevrolet has provided.

On the surface, the ZR1 is a brute.  755 horsepower and 715 pound feet of torque is enough to do a claimed top speed of 211 miles per hour.

As for acceleration times, there’s nothing official from Chevy but we’re anticipating zero to sixty times just under three seconds, and quarter mile times around 10 seconds or so.  Pure speculation as of right now.

Anyway, the car is obviously a rear-wheel drive coupe.

The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 can come with an optional rear wing (that is massive) and really brings out the best in the car’s performance on a track.

The rear wing can produce up to 950 pounds of down force at its best setting.

As for the weight of the car, the ZR1 is just about the same as the Z06, even with the immense carbon add ons that the ZR1 has, it’s still almost two tons.

Overall, the 2019 Corvette ZR1 is the absolute most powerful and (most likely) fastest and quickest Corvette ever made.

I do draw an issue from Chevrolet amping up how it is “the most powerful Corvette ever” and I do have this issue with Ferrari and really any brand that advertises their latest offering as “the best ever” or “the most powerful ever”.

The newest model should be the best ever or (in most cases when talking about performance cars) the most powerful ever.  I think that these sort of big titles should be expected instead of praised.

But, they’re not lying.  It is the fastest and most powerful Corvette ever.  And I do also think that it’s worth noting.  Just not as exuberantly.

Sum It Up:

The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is a serious, serious car.  I thought the Z06 was a serious car, but the ZR1 is even more seriously serious.

Chevrolet will apparently make 2,000 to 3,000 examples of the ZR1, making it not super rare but not common.  A happy middle.

Sources point to Spring 2018 as to when Chevrolet will start getting ZR1’s to customers as a 2019 model.

Quick speculation:  Does this mean anything regarding the mid-engined Corvette?  To me, it seems even more likely now.

Last year we saw images of the 2019 ZR1 and a particularly odd-proportioned Corvette model next to it.  So, I do think the mid-engined car is on its way, but most likely after the ZR1 hype calms down.

Pricing is also a grey area for now, with most of us pointing to above $100,000.  But it won’t be double the Stingray price of $56,000.
